Ever wanted to be a grocery store clerk? Deal with annoying customers? Get yelled at by your manager?
Probably not.
In our third year, we were tasked with creating a game that tackled current societal/world issues in four months. In the midst of the pandemic, the idea of a cashier simulator came to me - frontline workers were hit particularly hard in those months, and it felt like people had less and less empathy as lockdowns dragged on. I pitched the idea to my group, and we decided to create a pixel art 2D game highlighting the struggles of a worker in the pandemic.
I was responsible for most of the pixel art in the game, including the background art and some of the food sprites (ramen, soup cans, spam, spaghetti, etc). I also managed the project using Trello and kept team members on track by organizing team meetings. It was tough to find time to work on the project due to the amount of assignments from other classes, but we made it work!
